Welcome to my new website!

Welcome to ianmorgan-williams.com. Here you will find reasonably-regularly updated information about my music and me, and very soon my shop will open, magically appearing somewhere within these pages through technological enterprise way beyond my skillset. Watch this space and Social Media for updates.

My recent trip to Cardiff on 24 & 25 May went swimmingly, and by that I don’t mean that I drove headlong into the Severn. Why would I? It would be far easier and more relaxing to that here in beautiful Montgomeryshire… The BBC National Orchestra of Wales were just brilliant – so warm, friendly and supportive. And Principal Conductor Ryan Bancroft,  Composer in Association Gavin Higgins and Composer Affiliate Sarah Lianne Lewis were a delight to work with.

Anyway, I suppose the main excitement of the two days came with the premiere of Canzoni d’Amore da Lontano (Cavatina for Small Orchestra) – I can honestly say that I’ve never felt so relaxed during a premiere. First, there’d been three rehearsals (how often does that happen? – thanks BBC!). Second, I knew my music was in very secure hands. Not only that, very secure, supportive and willing hands. What more could a composer ask for…?

Early next month I shall be returning to Sussex, seeing old friends and sharing a socially-distanced drink or two and a stroll along the banks of the River Ouse, for the latest performance of Some Easy Music on Saturday 3 July. I composed this for the Musicians of All Saints in 2015. This time around it will be performed under the expert stewardship of conductor Peter Michael Davison at the All Saints Centre in Lewes.

Meanwhile back at the desk, I’ve just put the finishing touches to my latest Stephen Plaice song cycle – The Man Who Steals Behind Me – for Tenor and Piano. Working with Stephen’s immaculately crafted writing always brings immense pleasure. If you’re not familiar with his poetry, do pick up a copy of Those Under Saturn : Selected Poems and spend some time inside Stephen’s real-imagined world.

Of course, no one only writes music. Surely all composers do ordinary things, at least sometimes. I happen to bake – not professionally, but reasonably competently and quirkily imaginatively. If you really don’t want to read about music, click IBBC to jump straight to Ian’s Biscuits, Bread & Cake log. You might even find the odd (very odd) recipe…

Until I open the shop pages on this new website, please contact me if you’d like to purchase or hire my music, or if you’d like to peruse any of the items in the Lists of Works .

Enjoy!
